The Columbia River
GorgeTours
The Columbia River Gorge offers so many variables in our attempting to capture the beauty of this magnificent jewel of our Pacific Northwest in photographs, I must offer two differing tours per the Eastern and Western sides of the Gorge in a 3 day tour program.
I will offer options to include any of the two tour areas per your request, however, you may take a minute and look at the distances traveled between the areas and decide if you wish to spend time driving or shooting on the day of the change.

To begin, we have the Eastern Gorge beginning in The Dalles, Oregon.  From The Dalles we have the opportunity to venture out into the plains to the old homesteads and ranches that offer both views of the buildings, schools, and of course, our majestic Cascade peaks, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Ranier, Mt. Jefferson, and the Three Sisters, during sunrise and sunset.  We can tour the White River Falls State Park and its beautiful waterfalls cascading down upon the wide basalt cliff before you, and then drive along the Deschutes River capturing scenes of early western ranches and Native American fishing platforms.  Within this Eastern Gorge Tour would include Mosier and the Hood River Valley with its many orchards, and depending upon the months of your choice of tour, the beautiful Cherry Blossoms accompanied with Lavendar Farms, barns, views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams, and Mt. Ranier from afar.  Another idea to accompany this tour would be to cross the bridge in The Dalles and drive a few miles on Washington State Hwy. 14 east, and photograph the pictographs and petroglyphs at the Horsethief Lake State Park.  On the weekends, there is a walking tour to view many different paintings to include; "She Who Watches,"on the rock faces from the collection placed at the end of the road.

Remember, we can adjust what you wish to visit between both these tour choices.

The Western Gorge Tour begins in Hood River, Oregon.  The tour will have the same points of interest as those just previously mentioned in Hood River, but could involve taking a ride on the Sternwheeler down the Columbia for an hour from Cascade Locks or include choices of visiting the many waterfalls along the Old Historic Highway.  If your choice is to visit several of the off road waterfalls with short hikes of a mile or less, the most beauiful Wahclella, Elowah Falls, or Upper Ponytail Falls above the roadside views of Horsetail Falls await you.

Another choice for a complete day of spending time under the trees and sun would be to hike for a day along the Eagle Creek Trail while capturing Metlako, Upper and Lower Punchbowl Falls, Loowit, Skoonichuk, Tunnel and finally, Eagle Creek Falls in nearly 7 miles one way of easy to moderate hiking accompanied by the many assorted wildflowers that rise up along many sections of the trail.  This trail is not recommended for small children as it passes along a steep cliff with a steel safety cable on the ledge before entering into the forest for the remainder of the hike.

From Horsetail to Multnomah Falls, to Wahkeena to Shepard's Dell and Latourell Falls along the Historic Oregon Highway we will venture to the overlook at Crown Point before heading to the Women's Forum to capture Crown Point and Beacon Rock at sunset.

The final day of shooting you have your choices of traveling either to the Rose Gardens and Japanese Gardens in Portland, or driving North into Washington to the town of Woodland where we will arrive in an hour from Portland to the Historic Cedar Creek Grist Mill and its covered bridge.

There are many more locations than previously mentioned just waiting for you to explore.  Do not hesitate in asking to make changes to the programs listed above...
It is your tour!

Just think of me as a shepherd leading his flock as we graze across the Pacific Northwest's many beautiful landscapes ...
